Description:

• RN position - BSN required, MS strongly preferred
• Management Exp Required, candidates who are willing to jump in and assist with patient care, as necessary. To that end, CV Service Line Director needs to have experience working in a Cardiac Cath Lab.
• The overall role of the Director is to serve as a role model and organize their respective department services to meet the goals and objectives of the hospital mission. He/she is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the professional, personnel, and fiscal policies of their department.

Job Relationship

• Reports directly to assigned Administrative Manager.

Hours of Work

• This is an exempt position typically with 40 hours per week, but hours should include whatever time it takes to perform essential tasks.

Physical Requirements

• Exerting up to 50 lbs force occasionally, and/or 25 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Positional tasks may include frequent walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, stooping and dexterity. Near vision correctable; far vision correctable; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); must be able to tolerate the following conditions: dry atmospheric conditions; excessive noise; intermittent dust; radiant energy; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; working around machinery with moving parts; working around moving objects or vehicles; working with hands in water; working with latex; working closely with others; working alone; protracted or irregular hours of work.

Working Conditions

• This job classification has occasional occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex and musculoskeletal injuries.

Required Yearly Inservices

• Fire Safety; Electrical Safety; Hazardous Materials; Infection Control; Body Mechanics.

Job Functions

PLANNING

1) Communicates to staff hospital's mission, strategic goals and establishes departmental goals and measures of success.
2) Develops and periodically revises departmental plan of organization that defines structure, purpose, working relationships and allocation of resources.
3) Establishes capital, salary and non-salary budgets annually, consistently with projected workload, productivity targets and new service development.
4) Routinely prioritizes goals and activities and plans strategies to accomplish them.
5) Establishes and annually reviews/revises departmental policies, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
6) Plans and directs preparation for all applicable regulatory surveys/inspections/drills.
7) Identifies new service opportunities for the department, determines feasibility and presents proposal.

ORGANIZATION

1) Defines roles within the department through development of job descriptions, clearly outlining lines of authority and responsibility.
2) Delegates effectively to staff and provides appropriate direction, support and follow-up.
3) Directs and maintains quality control programs as applicable to the department.
4) Works collaboratively with other managers and staff on inter/intra departmental services and projects.

LEADERSHIP/COMMUNICATION

i) Communicates effectively with all staff by conducting monthly staff meetings and using other appropriate communication channels.
ii) Attends Department Manager meetings and then communicates information to staff.
iii) Conducts effective meetings with established agenda and good time management.
iv) Keeps Administrative Manager informed routinely of any staff performance issues, exceptional departmental operations issues.
v) Motivates staff through building on strengths of the individual and his/her desire to excel.
vi) Has developed an effective team where diversity of opinion and the ability to reach consensus are valued and practiced.
vii) Manages change by understanding and practicing skills that enable change to occur while enhancing the organizations spirit.
viii) Encourages innovation by creating an environment where idea generation and creativity are valued.
ix) Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and non-verbal communication skills.
x) Provides objective, factual information about the department when required. Has a good grasp of the daily operations of the department.
xi) Effectively manages conflict situations.
xii) Serves as a resource to staff and other departments in an effective manner.
xiii) Demonstrates problem solving ability utilizing appropriate resources.
xiv) Demonstrates support of administrative decisions.
xv) Demonstrates the ability to perform under stressful conditions.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

i) Establishes Position Control (Plus) for department with appropriate mix of FT, PT staff and skill mix in accordance with needs of the department and budgeted FTEs.
ii) Selects staff to ensure competency, effective teamwork and goal congruency; utilizing Targeted Selection methodology.
iii) Schedules staff based on average workload and develops plans to adjust staffing as workload changes.
iv) Meets established productivity targets for department through appropriate adjustment of daily staffing levels as workload varies.
v) Regularly evaluates staffing and adjusts Position Control (Plus) as workload trends changes.
vi) Promotes open professional climate conducive to staff interaction and productivity.

STAFFING

1) Establishes Position Control (Plus) for department with appropriate mix of FT, PT staff and skill mix in accordance with needs of the department and budgeted FTEs.
2) Selects staff to ensure competency, effective teamwork and goal congruency; Targeted Selection methodology.
3) Schedules staff based on average workload and develops plans to adjust staffing as workload changes.
4) Meets established productivity targets for department through appropriate adjustment of daily staffing levels as workload varies.
5) Regularly evaluates staffing and adjusts Position Control (Plus) as workload trends changes.
6) Promotes open professional climate conducive to staff interaction and productivity.

STAFF COMPETENCY

1) Establishes departmental orientation program including initial training and competencies; ensures documentation of completion of orientation is forwarded to employee's personnel file.
2) Ensures 100% staff attendance at mandatory annual inservices.
3) Coordinates pertinent department-specific education and inservice.
4) Coordinates and documents results of annual staff competency assessment.
5) Reviews and evaluates staff performance 90 days after hire and annually and forwards evaluations to HR within designated timeframe.
6) Addresses staff performance and competency issues in fair and consistent manner through progressive counseling, keeping Administrative Manager and HR AVP informed.
7) Evaluates unit/department orientation/preceptor-ship.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

1) Coordinates and directs department's participation in collaborative performance improvement activities.
2) Tracks and maintains department's measures of success and communicates findings to staff on routine basis.
3) Encourages, supports and initiates innovation in revising processes.
4) Supports and facilitates staff participation in performance improvement activities and monitoring.
5) Accepts responsibility for assessment of own learning needs and identifies educational opportunities and other strategies to meet those needs.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

1) Measures customer satisfaction and implements follow-up action as indicated.
2) Exhibits and promotes behaviors which demonstrate customer focus.
3) Facilitates department environment that supports teamwork and cooperation.
4) Recognizes through departmental policy and practices age-specific, cultural and physical needs of customers in providing service.
5) Deals effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and the public, demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness in meeting their needs.

SAFETY

i) Has working knowledge of the operation of department equipment or seeks guidance from appropriate personnel.
ii) Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel and correctly completes work orders.
iii) Identifies and removes safety hazards/devices and reports to appropriate personnel.
iv) Assures safe, clean and clutter free environment.
v) Utilizes universal precautions by wearing protective equipment (goggles, gowns, gloves and uses correct hand washing techniques.)

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

1) Attends and participates in Department Managers meetings.
2) Accepts responsibility for assessment of self learning needs and identifies resources to meet educational goals.
3) Actively participates in hospital and department committees as assigned.
4) Serves as a positive role model for others.
5) Attends all mandatory in-services annually.
6) Open to learning new skills and applying such skills to new projects.

CLINICAL (IF APPLICABLE)

1) Evaluates, assesses and sets up a comprehensive plan for each new patient according to their age. Assumes responsibility for assigning appropriate personnel to carry out the treatment plan in order to reach short term and long term goals. Ensures proper documentation of all treatment performed.
2) Ensures development of patient treatment plans and documentation of progress in a timely fashion as determined by department policies.
3) Coordinates and supports inter-disciplinary discharge planning efforts. Provides recommendations based on observed evaluation and progress of patients to ensure safe, appropriate and timely discharges.
4) Provides patient education and ensures that all persons involved understand instructions. Education is designed to meet the age appropriate need of each patient along with other specific needs based on his/her mental, physical, and emotional status.
